Sam-I-Am

I was reading Green Eggs & Ham to Baby J and I realized 2 things about Sam-I-Am.

1) The whole book he totally peer pressures Dr. Seuss (or whoever that guy is) into trying his green eggs & ham. "do you want them in a boat, do you want them with a goat, etc.." He harrasses him the whole book. Dr. Seuss is screaming "I DO NOT like green eggs & ham Sam-I-Am!!" And yes, I did explain to the baby that this is an example of peer pressure.

2) Sam-I-Am is my best friend Heather. Whenever we go out and she orders something, a drink, food, ANYTHING, she harrassess me until I try it.

Heather: "Come on try it, please try it, come on try it, please try it, come on, pleaseee"
(this will go on until I finally say the below)

Me: "FINE, if you shut up I'll try it." :)

Sorry baby. Do you need ear plugs?

First, let me explain that in the 4th grade, everyone was allowed to “try out” for chorus. And usually everyone who tried out, made it. I mean, we were only 9 years old. How bad could we be?!?! Well… turns out, a 9 year old can be pretty bad. According to Ms. Stevens! Long story short – I didn’t make it. I was manager. It has haunted me.

So, with that said, I want to apologize to my poor baby boy who has to hear me sing to him daily. Besides being out of tune, I can’t remember normal baby songs. I usually sing to him the following:

The Golden Girls theme song – “thank you for being a friend…. And if you threw a party and invited everyone you knew, you would see the biggest gift would be from me & the card attached would say. Thank you for being a friend…”

Police, Roxanne (sorta) – “Baaaaby, you don’t have to turn on the red light. Baaaaby, you don’t have to sell your body to the night.” I sing this a lot.

I also sing a lot of 90’s rap songs, but not the whole song. Just a line here & there. But, don’t worry, I do play him GOOD music from my ipod all the time. He does not just get to hear this glorious voice of mine.

Just cute pics of my 5 month old love nugget

Landscaping

So, we are getting there! We have sprinklers and some tress now. We are working in phases, so hopefully grass is next. In a few months or maybe next year, we will plant two small citrus orchards in the front. I can't wait! I am so excited for some grass. It will help cool the house and reduce the amount of dust in here. We will be able to lay on a blanket under a tree with the baby and he can run through the sprinklers eventually. So awesome! And maybe someday I'll be able to plant a little vegetable garden AND keep it alive! Keep your fingers crossed that my brown thumb turns green! :)

Grass & trees & sprinklers, oh my!

(a side note)

You think I would be a little tech savvy considering I work at a software company. NO!!!!!
I can't get the below post to NOT have double spacing AND I cannot load the pics in an organized row. So I just posted one there! AND somehow I deleted my own twitter account TWICE!!!!!!!!!! UGH.

ps - this is my 2nd attempt to publish this post too!!!!!!!!

July 17, 2009

Last year on July 17th we heard your little heartbeat inside me for the first time. Your dad picked me up for our appt. and Dr. Vazquez found your heart right away. It was one of the best days of my life. Now, a year later, I can’t believe all that has happened. You have changed me in so many positive ways. It feels like you were my missing piece. With you, now I am whole. Completely myself.

Bday

Well on Thursday I turned 33. WHAT!? I know, I feel 26 I think. How in the hell did this happen?? Oh well, it truthfully doesn't bother me. My life is so much better now then at 26. Although 26 was a BLAST, my little munch wasn't here.

So, on Thursday a few of us went out to eat at Casa Maya. It was my first time, but everyone raved about it b/c of the fresh, organic ingredients. I have to say, it was very good, except our server was in a rotten mood. John hates bad service (like everyone) b/c he was a bartender for so long. He knows when they should be accommodating & when they are just being jerks. Anyway, she was a jerk. Oh well. It didn't ruin our time. John got me some new Electric shades and this awesome diaper bag. The diaper bag was made from his close family friend with fabric from Japan. RAD. I'll post a pic later.

I'm really excited for tonights festivities too. The girls are coming over for make your own pizza & drinks! HB is still in Maryland, so she can't come. :(

ps - It has been a magical 108 degrees here lately.

Realization

Last night my mom and I went to market night. We got some fresh produce, sunflowers, 6 mini donuts, a toe ring. You know, the essentials. The street was crowded. The baby was not so impressed and fell right to sleep. But, as we were walking around I realized something. I was looking at all the kids there in dyed black hair, skinny jeans, piercings. Listening to them yell at one another and I realized, I one day, will have a teenager...

That frightens me.

Weekend

I love our Saturday mornings. The three of us lay in bed, sipping our coffee, playing with the baby, falling back asleep, playing our scrabble games. John in a singsong voice says “I’m a standing man, I’m a standing man” as baby J props himself up over and over. Everyone is in a great mood on Saturday, always.

First Fourth

Hallelujah for 3 day weekends. This 4th of July was on Sunday. We woke up late (lovely), John took the baby so I leisurely got ready for the day. Painting my toes and attempting self tanner. How nice! We all got ready, picked up some goodies at Fresh N Easy and headed to Chris Conway’s house. Despite teething the baby did great. He smiled for everyone, dipped his toes in the pool, took a snooze (I did have to drive him down the street to get him down though), hung out with his baby friend Richie and his cousin Slade AND he tasted the goodness of watermelon!! Our little munch loved sucking on the cold watermelon.

And… on Monday John rolled over from back to front! He can now roll in both directions. Such a genius, I swear. ;)

Pity Party

Well, this was my first full week back at work. The beginning of the week went well for baby & me. Wednesday was a little rough for the little guy and Thursday was a little rough for me. Tears were shed and not just from the baby. Luckily, John could tell in my voice I was upset & met me for lunch on Thursday. His plan was to bring the baby, but of course, he fell asleep for his nap right at lunch. So just John met me, but that helped too. I've talked to all my working mom friends and they all said it gets easier. I hope their right.

I can't believe how much there is to get done after work each day. Spend time with baby, spend time with each other, feed dogs, try to pay attention to the dogs, wash all the bottles & pump stuff for the next day, get bottles poured & ready for next day, bathe baby, bathe myself, cook dinner or find dinner, clean up dinner, clean up house, get coffee ready for next day, feed baby, put baby to bed, oh and try to take some time for yourself & relax. And what if I have errands to run? Or what if I wanted to actually run? Overwhelming.

I'm sure we will figure it out & get in a groove. It just seems like a lot right now. I am so thankful for my mom & Bev. They have helped us out a TON this week!!! I'm also thankful for this three day weekend. Tonight John made us dinner & the baby was out at 9:00.

Maybe things are already getting easier! ;)
